So, if you have seen any unusual results in your rankings, it is probably due to an incident that is currently affecting them.
And not due to the current Google Core Update.
It's right to mention that I have both seen my site there and heard people talking about it. But something seems to be going on in Pinterest, but not for all.
I have an old account there, but the first news was that it was new.
I stress that I haven´t researched it, but I see my account was lower last few days, but not enough to say too much at the moment.
Having said that, I have always thought that Pinterest's control is even worse than Google's because they change their system regularly just to change. That is my feeling, at least.
It's been a few years since, I guess, 40% of my traffic was from it, but in one Google night, it fell to almost nothing.
Since then, it has been up and down.
There still are 2 rules there, both seeing and researching people I trust 100%.
A) It is best that people don´t see faces in the pin. Why, don´t ask me! It is incredible for image browsers.
B) It is worse to have too many followers, as the research of this person I trust shows that they downsize accounts where followers don´t look like your pins. And vice versa!
But probably Andy know that better.
Just an update, that the issue affecting Google ranking has now been fixed.
So, your SERP results are likely to be accurate now, but, of course, the August Google Core update is still ongoing, and will take a month to roll out, finishing mid-September.
Your ranking could fluctuate during this period, so as Partha would say - Don't Look!
Let's wait until it's over before we draw any conclusions!
Yup,
The "ranking is experiencing an ongoing issue" is said to have started on 15th August, but it actually looks as though it started over the weekend of the 10th/11th... but yep, now over.
Obviously, the Google Core Update is ongoung since 15th August (this is "the one", sure there are some reports of "smaller" sites seeing some type of recovery, but view this from September 2023 NOT March 2024... if your site "recovers" above March 2024 levels, but still not up to September 2023 levels, you HAVE NOT recovered, Google is simply using "marketing tactics" to make you think things are improving), could be for up to a month... let's see, this is also dealing with the feedback that people provided via social media and the "official form" that Google issued after September 2023 HCU.
The "Pinterest update" started on August 12th and it has been dubbed by some as the "Pinterest HCU", the reason being, some people have seen their Pinterest traffic fall off a cliff in much the same way as Google's HCUs.
There is is talk about ENTIRE PINTEREST ACCOUNTS being affected, in much the same way as Google's HCU put a "sitewide classifier" on a website's domain, it is felt that the same thing has been done with many Pinterest accounts.
For anyone who wants to check this for themselves, simply open a brand new Pinterest account (new email address, new everything), take about 10 pins from your previously good-performing Pinterest account (that now looks like it's been hit by an HCU) and upload these to your new Pinterest account (not shared, pretend you are adding NEW PINS), check back simply on views/impressions of those 10 pins after 7 days... if the figure appears to be greater than the last 7 days on your "normal account", then your Pinterest account may potentially have a classifier on it.
For now, the only "recovery" is the same as websites after HCU, therefore NOT GUARANTEED, and that is to start a new Pinterest account and upload all the content from your original account again (in the same way that those who have had a website affected by HCU simply purchased a new domain and then uploaded all the content from their old "hit" site... not really a solution, but it will work for potentially 1-2 years befire the "new" account/website gets hit again)
As always, DON'T do anything until this is all over...
Something tells me, it won't be long before the entire internet HATES
"Content websites SOLELY created for affiliate marketing and/or ad revenue"
It may be time for people to start including ecommerce sections on their websites, UGC via forums on their websites, or creating THEIR OWN products and services... or simply avoiding Google altogether and promoting your content via 5-6 other platforms
Pinterest has been most beneficial to me over the years. But in my opinion, they are much worse than Google—yes, you read it right—because they change just to change!
So, from getting 30-40% of my traffic from it a few years ago, it is always a rollercoaster for me!
But now around 15% has gone down, that is ok if I look at the big picture.
