I’ve been putting together a small page on my latest project - just a simple resource hub collecting videos that actually teach something about digital marketing.
Thing is, finding those videos is like panning for gold in a landfill. YouTube’s full of "Top 10 growth hacks" and "secret AI strategies" that never get beyond buzzwords. What I’m after are the ones that actually show the thinking - campaigns broken down, smart explanations, real-world examples.
It can be anything to do with digital marketing: ad funnels, SEO tips or even the psychology of digital marketing.
Basically, the kind of video you finish and feel smarter for watching.
Who are your go-to creators? YouTube, Vimeo, Rumble - whatever - I’d love to hear it. I’ll probably feature a few on the page (with credit, of course) so other people can skip the fluff too.
Is there one digital marketing video you’ve watched that really moved the needle for you?
Some of his stuff is a bit black/grey hat but SEO Jesus has some really insightful content, in my opinion - https://www.youtube.com/@seojesus/videos
He does cram in a lot of actionable info. For example, this video reveals the exact steps he took to achieve the claimed results :
I asked GPT to summarise this video. You can see what I'm talking about. Packed with real-world case-study style insights ...
-
A Canadian finance brand had modest organic traction; initial metrics (April): ~350 monthly visitors and ~$1,100 “traffic value.”
-
Core strategy shift: stop PR fluff; target the actual transactional keywords customers search for (product + location/variation).
-
Month 1: large content sprint across sub-niches; aim was comprehensive coverage so pages can age (3–6 months to start ranking, ~12 months to compound).
-
Content optimization used entity/knowledge-graph focus (e.g., Surfer): write to match top-ranking competitors’ entities/term frequencies; client pages hit strong content scores.
-
Link building ran in parallel (outreach + placements). As referring domains rose (e.g., from ~16 to 100+), more pages indexed and rankings/traffic followed.
-
By early September: traffic roughly doubled (~785 visitors) and traffic value rose to about $2,100; growth trend is accelerating.
-
Key ranking reality: top 3 positions capture outsized clicks; many keywords sit on page 2/low page 1 for months, creating a “pit of despair” before payoff.
-
Acceleration tactic: a “clickbomb” (ClickB) sending large bursts of viral social clicks to a target page to trigger short-term (≈1 week) ranking lifts—works best for pages already in the top 30 with solid content and links.
-
Case demo: after an initial dip (post-clickbomb), a rerun moved a target keyword from ~20/21 to 14; past tests showed average ~48% ranking gain, but results vary and it’s not a magic bullet.
-
Takeaway: Own the fundamentals (transactional content + entity-rich optimization + steady backlinks), then use clickbombs as temporary boosts for ROI while the long-term SEO “real estate” matures; track traffic value (not just volume) to judge business impact.
I've actually tried one of his 'Clickbombs' and it did briefly boost me to Google page 1 but it was very short lived and my target actually ended up in a worse position than before the clickbomb ... so I'm not convinced but others have seen good results, apparently!
Anyway ... I've gone right off on a tangent here, sorry!
Now there's a question! So much content out there on YouTube it's easy to get utterly bamboozled.
I get a lot of value from the aHrefs channel : https://www.youtube.com/@AhrefsCom
and also SEMRush has been a more recent fave of mine, although their output seems to have slowed up quite a bit this year: https://www.youtube.com/@semrush
