Hello,

I have been using LinkedIn for a while now and getting some traction on it by just posting links to my blog articles on my website.

I did notice recently that many people in my niche are using LinkedIn Business Pages.

I'm just wondering if we should be creating a business page or if it's okay to keep posting on our personal LinkedIn profile.

I'm assuming it's probably best to create a business page.

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this, and if anyone is using a business page for LinkedIn.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Jenny.

I'm just getting into the realm of LinkedIn, so I don't know the specific answer to your question, but generally everywhere else (on any other social media site), the answer would be yes, you'd want to do it on a business page.

Others here can comment on whether or not it helps ranks you better or not, but I would just do it so that it's a little cleaner - I don't like when things are attached to me personally (If I want to sell something in the future, then I'd better make sure all of the assets are with that specific business). Plus, if the business page is saying it, it seems like it would give it more authority behind it (i.e. a certain brand is saying this as opposed to a specific person), though I don't know that for certain.

@andy I'm not going to pretend I know the answer 100%...

However, here's how I view it.

LinkedIn is mainly about interacting with the LinkedIn community and growing new connections.

So, much the same as most social networks.

So, most people who are ACTIVE on Linkedin write "POSTS", not "articles".

Articles tend to have less reach within the LinkedIn community, they don't get seen or picked up as much.

However, "Linkedin posts", are much more compact, think 2-3 paragraphs, and these are SHARED more freely WITHIN THE LINKEDIN COMMUNITY.

BUT

Clever (sneaky) people, especially since the September 2023 HCU, used tools like ahrefs and semrush to check traffic stats regularly post-HCU for various platforms.

We ALL know about Reddit, and the "hockey stick" of that traffic graph for Reddit over the lasst 12 months is insane!!!

The same can be said for Linkedin (although both Linkedin and Medium took a little "hit" in February 2024, so just before the Core update, and Reddit even had 1000s and 1000s of spam comments removed around 19th March 2024, which also happened to be the last day of the SPAM update).

Anyway, all these platforms, have seen traffic increase significantly over the last 12 months, and especially 7 months (even with the slight dips this year, they're still in the 1000s and 1000s of % increase from 12 months ago).

So, back to these clever sneaky people, they noticed that Linkedin ARTICLES didn't really do well among the community, but due to the huge increase in exposure in the SERPs, it started to become noticeable Linkedin ARTICLES were ranking in GOOGLE).

So, they didn't care about the community interactions, making connections, or making their profile look "professional" (as long as they have a photo and a bio, which can be branded for your website and brand, so one paragraph is fine), they just wanted to write articles to RANK in Google.

And because of the increased authority and search engine exposure of Linkedin, their articles ranked WITHOUT a business page.

To me, it's much the same as Medium, if you want to get involved in the community and potentially earn through the community, then you need to do the "social thing and look professional on Linkedin".

HOWEVER

If you just want to "leach" off the domain authority JUST to rank in Google, then just make sure the articles are decent and you'll rank for the vast majority of well-thought-out longtail keywords (another clue, if you see a LinkedIn post or article ranking for a keyword, WRITE THE ARTICLE ON LINKEDIN YOURSELF), so you don't really "care" about looking overly professional and having a business page (as I say, having a profile photo and a shirt branded bio will suffice).

Is there a difference in terms of ranking in Google?

That I don't know.

I definitely haven't tested LinkedIn enough (although I do have two articles currently ranking, out of 5 written)

@partha Thanks, Partha for your lengthy response, LOL!

I haven't actually written any articles on LinkedIn, I have only shared links to my blog posts on my websites with a short paragraph introducing the topic and enticing people to click on the link.

I have done all of this on my personal LinkedIn profile, where I mention what I do and what my website is about in my bio.  So, my thought was I should probably create a business page.  But, I wasn't sure if it was necessary or even worthwhile.

But, having a business page seems to make sense as Andy has pointed out that it looks more professional and has more credibility.

@andy Thanks for your response, Andy.

Yes, I have been thinking about starting a business page on LinkedIn because it seems like the logical thing to do.  I will move forward with this.

Thanks again, appreciate it!

Jenny.

@rudy yeah, I just tried to create a business page, but I guess I'm still a little too new as an account, so they told me to wait a day before I could do that. Keep us updated on your progress!

@rudy Hi Rudy,  I just created a LinkedIn business page today and already scheduled a few posts for the week ahead.

I really should have started this business page a long time ago!
But, better late than never.

LinkedIn is a great platform.

Hi Everyone,

Does a business page on Linkedin have to be linked to a personal account like Facebook and if it is can people see the connection. I don't really want my company seeing my connection but this sounds like a good idea to start a Linkedin business page.

@petedr93 Hi Pete,

My LinkedIn business page is not in any way associated with my facebook account.

You only need to have a personal LinkedIn profile.

Hope this helps.

Jenny.

@jenny I think I confused the issue 😀

Does a LinkedIn business page have to be connected to your LinkedIn personal profile and can other people see the connection? i.e. would all of my work connections get notifications that I have started a new business page?

I would like to keep them separate

Thanks for replying

@petedr93 Hi Pete,

I’m not totally sure on this.

I only started my business page yesterday and I did it through my personal page.

You have the option to invite your followers on your personal profile to follow your business page. So in your case you can choose to NOT invite your personal followers.

Hope that makes sense.  I’m not entirely sure if your personal followers will know about your page.  In my case I have invited my personal followers.

Hopefully someone else can chime in and clarify this for you.

Jenny.

@jenny JENNY!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG!!! I'M SORRY!!

I really want to blame it on a forum glitch, but I have a feeling it's my own stupidity, hahaha!!

My initial answer here was completely aimed at Andy, I didn't even see you had started the thread with a question, so my reply isn't really applicable to YOU!! SORRY!! Hahahaha!!

Okay, for YOU, Yes, open a LinkedIn business page.

If you're getting traction from just sharing posts this is likely to be from within the community.

So, you need to gear your entire profile toward the community, therefore it makes much more sense to have a "professional and attractive" looking profile (if your Linkedin articles are ranking in the SERPs it doesn't really matter about your profile as people are finding your articles ranking).

So, YES, create a business page.

The other thing, as even snippets from Linkedin often rank, have a look at which of your shares are doing especially well, work out what the primary keyword is, and check it in Google, you MAY find that just your "snippet shares" are ranking.

This is a great clue that writing a "fuller" article on Linkedin WILL RANK for that keyword.

As for creating a LinkedIn business page, you can either follow a tutorial on YouTube, or there are about 3-4 Fiverr gigs, ranging from $25-$40 which all have over 500 5-star ratings.

@partha Thanks Partha.

I went ahead and started a business page yesterday and already scheduled a few posts throughout the week.

I think there’s definitely great potential with LinkedIn.

Jenny.

PS. I’m sure it was totally a forum glitch. 😄

So, just to follow up on this (and for what it's worth since I just created my first Business page), there doesn't seem to be really any difference on whether you create an article on your business page or on your actual profile. I'll do some testing here soon between seeing which one ranks better (target the same keyword on my profile as well as on a business page), and see if we can't share the results.

Personally, if you are posting on any platform for you business, I would do it under a business page, just so that if you go to sell that said business, you can easily give the owner new access (like to a business page). Also, since I run multiple businesses, it just practically makes sense to use a separate business page for each business, so that not everything is convoluted into one personal profile. If that makes sense.

I'll update the forum when I can get better conclusive results on which type of article (a personal or business) ranks better, though right now, I don't think there is going to be a big difference between the two.
