Hello,

I want to switch hosting from WA to WPX, but WPX can't get access because of restrictions from WA to use their plugin and WP now asks me to transfer them my complete database and files.

I've tried googling it, but it looks all so complicated, isn't there an easy way to get all this please?

thanks!

Lizzy

PS, what a relief to just be able to ask these things on this forum now and not be bashed by the owners of WA LOL . (yeah, recently got scorned in a dm by Carson when I just wanted to use WP rocket ffs)

I promised I wouldn't slag off WA when I left, LOL, but the one thing that clearly is terrible is the hosting!!

In fact, basic human psychology, we tend to get agitated and angry when people "criticise us", but subconsciously it's because we know there is some truth to it.

And yet, the one thing that the owners constantly snap at people about is the HOSTING!!

Says it all!!

Just to give an idea, I have separate servers at WPX, but two of my main sites had 928,000 visitors between them JUST in March 2024.

Do you know when the last time that I spoke to WPX SiteSupport about either of these sites was?

13th January 2023

So, I have had NO NEED to speak to WPX support because I have had NO PROBLEMS (and think about how much traffic that is) over the last 15 months.

So, when I hear that "somewhere else" has the "best hosting in the world" and is the "equivalent of $250/month hosting", I have to laugh when I see people DAILY unable to log into their WordPress, having to clear cache 7.000.000 times a day (anyone with hosting elsewhere will realise that they have no need to be constantly "clearing cache"), downtime EVERY MONTH (do you not think that Google is taking note of all this downtime, which will potentially affect your rankings), constant HTTP 501s, 504s, "dangerous site" constantly blamed on Google Chrome, eermmm, the rest of the internet doesn't appear to have this Google Chrome issue, and it's never the hosting, it's always YOU or YOUR THEME or YOUR PLUGINS... eerm, once more, every other hosting company (that DOESN'T have daily downtime and constant problems) seem to be fine with these themes, plugins, etc.

eeerrrgghhhhh!!! got that off my chest, that feels better, haahahahahaha!!

@partha yeah, I was like, I'll have my new Dutch site hosted at WA for the moment, it is easily setup through the "hubs" and it was a long time ago that I created a new one. But from the start, I got that "error" message to a "dangerous site". And the first 2 days, it was constantly down!

And then you said to have the Dutch site on a different hosting, so I went ahead and switched.

So with my miniature site, I remember those days of constant issues and frustrations and I was like: NOT THIS TIME AGAIN, EVER, hahahaha!

And you are totally right, ever since I switched with my miniatures site, no more issues with downtimes or needing to contact support. Or IF I need to contact them, I get immediate response. WA support sometimes takes hours or only answer after I ask a second time. And I'm still a 'premium plus' member there, so I was promised to get instant support hahahahaha!

If I DARE to mention this, indeed I get the same responses from Kyle and Carson, usually in a DM. Once I reached over 100 blog posts on my English site, the troubles started there as well. (and that was only things I noticed, let alone the invisible things I hadn't noticed, how long was it down, how many hours/days?..)

But for now, I will keep those 2 on separate hosting still, see what gives in the next months when advancing with my Dutch site.

Anyway, not that again, ever hahaha!

@Lizzy Hey Lizzy, I literally just had to deal with this yesterday, lol. Here is the exact "prompt" I used for WA's SiteSupport to generate me a full backup:

Howdy,

I'm in the process of moving my sites to another hosting company, and due the restrictions here, the other hosting company wasn't able to move the following sites:

REDACTED.COM
REDACTED.COM
REDACTED.COM
REDACTED.COM
REDACTED.COM

They've requested " full backup of the website /content + database/ so we can continue with migration."

Is that something that you guys can help me with? REDACTED.COM is a very large site, and so we may have to do something different with that one, but is this something you can help me with, so that we can move forward with moving these site to another hosting company.

Thanks!

@Ohnoo_not_her It took about 10+ hours, but they were able to get me what I needed, and WPX has been able to transfer 3 of the 5 so far (WA should give you a link to download the backup that will end in a .tar.gz. It will include both the database and full backup).

@andy Hi again Andy,
So my site is already migrated, did you do the rest after that as well? I got another email with the further things to do:

" The migration was completed successfully. Now you can update your domain name servers or A records with:

A record's IP: 67.202.92.31
NameServer 1: ns1.wpx.net
NameServer 2: ns2.wpx.net
NameServer 3: ns3.wpx.net

If you are unsure of exactly how to change your nameservers at your domain registrar (e.g. GoDaddy, Namecheap), please let us know and we will do that for you at no cost (logins required please!).

----------- WPX Cloud -----------

Our WPX Cloud is enabled by default for your website for better performance.
More information can be found here:  https://kb.wpx.net/introducing-the-wpx-cloud-why-your-website-needs-it/
In order to experience the great speed of our WPX Cloud, you need to use our NS records to point the domain. (if you wish to point the domain with the IP records of the Cloud, please contact us for more information).

----------- Propagation-----------

Keep in mind that the DNS propagation usually takes 24 hours. In some rare cases, it can take up to 48 hours. It is important not to do any changes
during the propagation process as the changes may be applied on your old hosting and won't be transferred to us.
You can monitor the progress of DNS propagation here:  https://www.whatsmydns.net/
More information on the topic can be found here:  https://kb.wpx.net/what-is-dns-propagation-and-why-can-it-take-up-to-48-hours-/

----------- SSL Certificate -----------

We have noticed that your site is using an SSL certificate. If you want us to move your current certificate please provide us with the certificate itself, its private key and its CA bundle.
If you are not familiar with those or your current certificate can't be moved from your old host, please get back to us once the propagation is completed and we will install one of our free SSL certificates.

----------- Cache plugins and performance -----------

For better performance of your website, we have installed the W3 Total Cache plugin with our pre-configured settings which work best with our server's configuration as well as the Autoptimize plugin.
More information can be found here: https://kb.wpx.net/why-does-wpx-hosting-recommend-w3-total-cache/

Please let me know if I can help with anything else.

Kristian S.
WPX Migration Expert"

thanks!

Lizzy

@ohnoo_not_her Yup, I switched the nameservers over after that. I plan to double check and make sure that the nameservers are populated (you can do that here: https://www.whatsmydns.net/) - once that is done, then I'll move all the domains over to WPX, since, well it's cheaper, and just easier to have everything in one place.

Another thing that I've been telling WPX (after I move any of them) is the following prompt:

Awesome, Thank you! Do you think you could add SSL to this site as well as the "Antispam Bee" plugin?

Thanks!

I ask those because 1) they don't initially add any SSL, and 2) there is no anti spam plugin that they add either (I only use that plugin because I saw it on your site when I was working on it and it's been working well on my other site I put it on lol).

@feigner A good question - and one I'm not sure the answer to, in regard to AntiSpam Bee plugin. It worked, and so I used it.

As for other security plugins, I honestly have no clue - I've only used WA's hosting until I switched just recently (initially a few months ago), so I haven't had a need to look into any specific plugins when it comes to speed/caching, security, and spam. You probably know more than me, haha.

I will add one more thing though - and this is more for @ohnoo_not_her, that WPX normally will recommend W3 Total Cache, and that was giving me errors when I was trying to edit some GenerateBlocks blocks on my main site. So I switched to the LS (LiteSpeed) Cache plugin, and haven't had a problem since.

@andy aha, I actually don't remember who advised me the anti spam Bee plugin anymore haha, wasn't that you, Partha? Or someone else who helped me transfer before, not sure hahaha
I'll have to remember that link to see if they are transferred, just took a screenshot

thanks!

@andy by the way, just a itsy pitsy little thing about the forum.

When I get a confirmation email that a question is answered here (after I subscribed to the topic), I get a link to that answer, but it is not clickable, so I need to copy paste it and then put it in my browser.

(if you see what I mean)

I'm just lazy lol

Hey Lizzy,

Sorry, can't reply directly to your post (ANDY!!!! Sort it Out!!! Hahahaha!!! You can't interact on someone else's post if they have directly replied to another member)...

Anyway, the only thing you have to do is the nameserver stuff IF you're keeping the domain at WA (the best thing to do is wait until about 2 weeks BEFORE domain renewal and THEN transfer it to WPX, as whenever you transfer a domain to a new registrar you have to pay for the domain name again, so if you've only just purchased it recently, you may as well wait until just before renewal, so you're not paying double NOW)

Anyway, WA's site domains section under SiteManager only allows for TWO nameservers, so you will have to contact SiteSupport to add all three nameservers, just say that you've moved hosting and they have 3 nameservers, but the section in SiteDomains only allows for two nameservers, so can they do it for you.

Then, the only other thing you have to do is with WPX.

Say, YES, you want one of their free SSL certificates (don't worry about getting one from WA)

AND then...

If you want to, they automatically install W3Cache and Autoptimize (For FREE) on your website for caching and JS and CSS minification (basically what WP Rocket does), so if you want it, just confirm with them, and they will automatically install the plugins for you.
