Hey everyone,

I posted this question on WA several hours ago, but all I got so far is 1 like on the question and the screenshot in the comments. 😀

In any case, it's better to ask you guys — I'd like to say the people here are more "filtered out".

I've been checking my Google Analytics, and for a while now, I've been seeing a few sessions coming from ConvertKit.

I attached a screenshot.

I haven't started an email list yet, so I'm wondering where these people may be coming from? Could it be that some other folk in my niche is using some of my articles in their email series? Unlikely, but I thought I'd ask.

Appreciate you all.

Could it be something as simple as bot traffic from converterkit?

When you first set up an autoresponder, the "flow" needs to be checked, so bots may "crawl" the various urls to ensure everything runs smoothly, and also you'll usually send a test email to check the process.

If it's only a few visitors that's what I reckon it will be.

@partha

Thanks a lot Partha. That's a feasible explanation, but again, this has been happening for a while now — long before I set up the form on my website or had anything to do with ConvertKit.

I think I should've explained this in my question. My bad.

@yusuf Here's 72 completely irrelevant links for you to click on that have absolutely nothing to do with what you're asking about!!

It's a marathon not a sprint!!

XXXXX has you covered (thanks for pointing that out, I would never have noticed otherwise).

But, at least you have the "greatest hosting in the world", I mean where else can you have HTTP 500 errors, downtime, inability to log into WordPress, a support team who are as useful as a spamming newbie, and having to clear your cache 6,984,205, EVERY SINGLE MONTH WITHOUT FAIL!!!

And here's me, with clearly "the worst hosting in the world", one of my servers has 2 websites that had a total on 928,000 visitors in JUST April 2024, and I haven't spoken to my site support team since 23rd January 2023, so 16 months, in other words, NO PROBLEMS AT ALL for 16 months for nearly ONE MILLION MONTHLY VISITORS (and I never had to clear cache once in that time either!!!)

aaaarrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh!!! That felt good to out of my system!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

RIGHT!!!! Unless you're talking about 100+ visitors in GA4 I'm gonna very quickly lose interest in this conversation!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Because, if it's only 1 or 2 here and there it could literally be anything and not enough to even worry about,

Other things to consider, the big chess site that you write on, I'm guessing that your website url is visible there, perhaps they do a regular newlestter where they include links to the best posts on the site/forum every week (most forums do something similar), and perhaps people have read your article via the email and clicked through to your site.

Also, there's a pretty impressive YouTube channel called CHESS WISDOM... I'm saying no more, LOL, could've been accidentally sent your way, also depending on how successful you become, could be a future legal battle between you two!!! Hahahahaha!!

@andy This time I was able to "like" everyone's comments and replies EXCEPT for the only reply that was specifically aimed at me!!! Well done, you make SiteSupport look like geniuses!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 (but, I like you, so I'll let you off)

@partha 🤣🤣🤣

That YouTube channel is a pain in the arse, I had to call my channel Chess-Wisdom. 🤬

I only post shorts though, but there's a lot of potential in short-form chess content. And the nice thing about it is that it's no extra work because Instagram reels = Facebook reels = YouTube shorts.

I'll hopefully beat that guy with diversity. He only seems to have a YT channel.

@partha I'll create a bug thread here soon, so I can document this properly, but in the mean-time, if this happens again, send me the Post link (top right corner), as well the the specific URL that you're on when you're having this issue. That way I can debug/confirm that it's an issue. I can't quite replicate your specific issue. Yet...

@yusuf Just to confirm what others have told you at WA, the (unrelated) email that you received is a scam email, main reasons is because 1) it was spoofed from your own domain (i.e. accounts(at)chesswisdom.com), 2) it starts off with "dear," with no specific name it's addressing, and 3) as far as I can tell "department of inland revenue" refers to something in the Bahamas, and if you're currently living there, well then, let us know so we can come for a visit 😆

' I see that you got some good answers here', ohno, not yet hahahahaha. Now click on that 'like' button! lol

Don't shoot me if I'm wrong, but yes I think someone probably forwarded it by email, never seen this personally

Hi - but you do have an email sign-up form from ConvertKit?

So, there is a connection, but that's as far as I got!

@diane I just double checked - the free checklist takes you to a PDF that hosted on Convertkit. I was thinking the same as you were, but there isn't any link inside that email that directly links back to his site.

@yusuf Can you see what page those clicks are going to? And what is the time range that you're searching? Are they fairly new or old? Reason I'm asking is if, back in the day, you had your email opt-in redirecting somewhere to your site, that might be another possible explanation.

And just a thought - The email you sent came from "Yusuf". I'd recommend you think about changing that to your site's name, or "Yusuf from [SITE NAME]", since that way people who join your email list without initially knowing/realizing who you aren't won't be confused. I can PM you screenshots of what I mean if I'm not explaining it correctly.

@andy still can't "like" posts that are directly replying to another person... Still fewer glitches than the last place I was at 🤣🤣🤣🙈🤣🤣

In fact, if you fix the problem, we can all talk about how wonderful you are for solving all our issues... even though it's your fault in the first place 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

WHAT???

I'm allowed 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@andy I replied to you earlier, but for some reason I can't find my response.

As I said to Diane, the form was only placed yesterday, and I didn't have anything ConvertKit-related before that.

Thank you very much for the advice Andy. The email is still tentative as I only set it up yesterday, but I totally agree with you. I think I'll use Yusuf from ChessWisdom as the name.

@diane

I put this form just yesterday Diane, as I just started working on setting up my email list.

GA has been showing me a few visitors from ConvertKit for a while now, long before I placed that form!

@yusuf Hmm, interesting!

Although you only just added the form to your site, had you set up your account with ConvertKit some time ago, maybe added the PDF to it in anticipation of offering it?

I'm not familiar with ConvertKit, so I'm just trying to think this through logically!

@diane I really appreciate the thorough help Diane.

No, I also attached the PDF only yesterday. The only thing that comes to mind when I think about it is that some other (probably unrelated) event happened at around the same time.

I received this email. I attached a screenshot.

Usually this would be direct clicks from an email. GA4 has identified it as such. But looking at Andy's comment above, that doesn't seem to be the case.

I'm no GA4 expert and probably way off here, but might it be recording the form submission as a key event?

Thanks a lot, but again, the same thing applies.

I appreciate the insights from everyone. Now if anyone wants to come in and say: "I see you've got some good responses in here" at least they would have a point. 🤣

Many thanks Rohan.

It seems like someone is indeed directing their subscribers to one of my articles. Not sure if there's a way I can figure out who it is, but in any case, I think that's a positive sign.

Ha ha ha ... that used to really wind me up at WA.

It's a bit like those Amazon reviews that say something like "Well I haven't opened it yet but the box looks nice" ... completely pointless and an utter waste of my time 🤨
