Hey Everyone,

This will become a regular thing, simply me sharing the latest Google and SEO news from within the industry.

Some of this will be of great interest to some of you, whereas, some things you may not totally understand.

However, I've always felt it's important that if you work in a certain industry you keep up to date with the news going on in that industry.

Admittedly, Google and SEO in general have seen mainly negative comments, stories, and feedback over the last 9 months, but you can either keep yourself up to date with the latest news OR hide away and pretend that nothing is going on.

Me, I prefer, that you know, and that you extend your knowledge.

So, here goes:

Firstly, we have Wired's in-depth piece on Google's AI Overviews.

Then, there's another piece from Wired telling us that Google's AI Overview will soon have ads. We're still not 100% clear about what this will mean.

But, the following SearchEngineJournal article explains how Google will Prioritize AI Overviews Ads over ORGANIC SEARCH (I will NEVER say "SEO is Dead", because IT'S NOT, but if your main "business model" is "doing keyword research" and "adding articles to your website", and not really doing much else, be prepared... to NOT achieve much with your website moving forward... EVER)

Next, we have Dr. Peter Myers take on the Google Site Reputation Abuse Update on May 5th 2024 and the immediate aftermath.

Then, we have Lily Ray's "Post-Mortem" of the March 2024 Core Update, which also covers those hit in the September 2023 HCU.

Next, we have Barry Schwartz's update about Google's aim to help websites that "have taken helpfulness to heart", which will form part of the NEXT Core Update. (I don't believe a word of it).

Finally, a VIDEO, from one of my favourite SEOs, Stewart Vickers aka "SEO Jesus", who does dabble in the "Blackhat side", but is one of the most knowledgeable people in this industry.

Stewart, doesn't think much of the "affiliate marketing" and "ads revenue" business models in 2024 and onward, so, this is what he is doing instead>>>

Furthermore, anyone following my "parasite SEO" techniques on Linkedin or Medium, Stewart has a number of videos from around December 2023 and January 2024 about his efforts with parasite SEO (mainly Reddit and Linkedin), so this is definitely a channel you should be subscribed to.

And that's your Google and SEO round-up for May 2024.

Partha

p.s. well done Lizzy, Frank, and Russell for your recent comments "elsewhere" (yeah, I'm aware!!! LOL!! And no I won't EVER try to convince you that you don't need to "worry about something on your website" because the 3rd largest company in the world, a company that spends $10,000,000+ on Google ads per year, is "not doing very well at this either". Do you honestly believe that Google would "decrease rankings" for a website that pays them millions and millions and millions per year? But, you can guarantee they will "decrease rankings" on YOUR website for the same issues!!

This definitely caught my attention.  My existence up to this point has been to keep my head down, keep digging, and "do the research".  Time to creep out of the bunker...

I have also watched the 10-minute Google "Ad" about AI and its uses with Gemini incorporated.  Google is definitely losing the war AI war.  I remember their knee-jerk reaction to Facebook, Google+, how far did that go?

If Bing and or Yahoo keep keyword search, search, the people will migrate away from Google altogether.  They are losing the point of their existence.

Just my quick reaction to the thought.

Great stuff Partha Smile

I love SEO Jesus already! Why haven't I seen this guy before? Ha ha!

In other news, Re: Gemini AI (from a regular 'Joe Blogs' user)

"All I'm offering is the truth!"
